The coin would never gain currency, the pun intended, in Nigeria because we have thieves and greedy people in power. Those who have taught and demonstrated to the populace that money is what counts. That is why they only listen to those who have it. Imagine you having no money, who'll listen to you? The coin would not be easy for those those thieves to ferry across the border or to bank;its heavy and burdensome. imagine having a N100,000 in coinz. But today with N1000 notes you need how many of that? Just drop it in your agabada pocket and shikena
I also agonise over the same thing too whenever I have cause to travel and still see people spending coins, even in Africa. However, it is a symbol of the Nigerian greed, not to spend coins, simple. Our budgets today are in billion and what do we get in return? nothing.

Really? I've never seen the fifty-cent coin. I've only heard about it. You said it's bigger than the dollar. Ooooh. Now that's what I never understand. The dime is also smaller than the penny (although we can argue that their value in metal is different. The dime is silver while the penny is bronze), and the five cents coin - of the same silver quality - is larger than the dime.
Arbitrary, arbitrary designs, eh?

Have you seen a half dollar? I recently found one for the first time! And this is after 6 years in the US. It's really big, much bigger than the dollar.
